LED (Light Emitting Diode) is a special type of diode
that has the property to convert the electrical energy into light
energy. It acts a highly efficient source of light and thus finds
applications in various appliances and electronic components. LEDs are
popularly used as LED displays in our homes and outdoors. LED is
everywhere from our mobile to large LED displays.
Different Types of LED Panels
An
LED panel consists or an array or group of LEDs powered by electrical
source of energy. LED panels can be broadly classified into two
categories, surface mounted panels and conventional LED panels.
Conventional LED panels are most commonly used in large outdoor. It
consists of LED in discrete forms that are separated from each other as
individual units. The complete display that you get on the screen is the
combination of information stored in square shaped individual displays
called pixels. Some of the examples are Moving message LED display
that you must have seen in malls, stores and buildings. LED message
displays also use conventional LED panels that display static message.
Full
Color Transparent LED displays make use of SMD technology that is
significantly different from the conventional LED panels that displays
information in the form of pixels. Full Color Transparent Displays
produces display by the combination of red, green and blue lightings.
The pixels are very fine as small as the size of pin head, thus
producing extremely sharp display. These pixels are mounted on the
circuit boards and compact chips. These chips are packed in the
transparent plastic casing that provides protection to the circuitry and
also allowing the produced light rays to pass. The illumination
produced by full color transparent display
is not very bright to be viewed from a very long distance. Large LED
displays find applications in stadiums and business organizations. The
use of LED displays is not just limited to large displays but also in
small electronic devices such as mobiles and watches.
Working of LED
A
diode is a p-n junction device consisting to two terminals, p and n
connected to positive and negative supply respectively. The electrons
coming from one side combine with holes to produce energy that is
released mainly in the form of photon or light. The color of the emitted
photon depends on the wavelength of the produced light which in turn
depends on the type of semiconductor material used to manufacture LED.
